- 2 pie crusts
- 8 baking apples (honeycrisp and granny smith are two great choices)
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 TBSP all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
2) Peel, core, and slice apples.
3) Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat (I use "4" on my stove). Add flour and stir to form a paste and cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.
4) Add sugars and water, bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
5) Place apples on top of a pie crust in a pie pan. Cover with sauce.
6) Cover pie with second pie crust. Cut 3 slits into the crust near the middle to vent steam.
7) Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes. reduce temperature to 350°F and bake for an additional 45 minutes.
8) Rest for 1 hour and then serve.
